It’s been a whirlwind of activity this year for Neeson Court Reporting, sponsoring, donating services and attending legal and CART-related events.
Electronic Trials and Arbitrations – April 2018
Kim Neeson, President, presented on the topic of Useful Technology for eTrials, discussing various tools available to counsel in discovery, court and arbitration settings.
End of Term Dinner – June 2018
This is one of our favourite events of the year, where hundreds of litigators – many of whom are clients – gather to celebrate the end of the first half of the year. We like to call it LawProm! Neesons was a sponsor of the always-happening After Party at the Steam Whistle Brewery.
Breakfast Near Tiffany’s VII – October 2018
Being able to sponsor an event that has a strong focus on women litigators and their needs, Neesons was proud to be a sponsor of this sold out conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Toronto.
Fall Forum – October 2018
The Young Advocates section of the Advocates Society gather together once every two years to host their own conference with a special emphasis on presentations that relate to specifically people with a 5-10 year call. Neesons, in its second-time sponsorship of this event, was thrilled to be present – candy bar and all – to make sure attendees were well sustained during the presentations (and on the car ride home, too!)
46th Annual CLA Fall Conference – November 2018
Since 2003, Neesons has provided pro bono court reporting services at the award ceremony of the G. Arthur Martin Criminal Justice Award. The transcript is reprinted in the CLA’s journal, For the Defence. This year’s winner was John Rosen.
Neesons also provided court reporting services at the Sopinka Lecture, this year given by Marie Henein.
The calibre of these two counsel is well known in Canadian criminal law circles.
OBA Litigator of the Year – November 2018
This year’s recipient, Linda Rothstein, gave a wonderful, heart-felt speech about the challenges she faced as a young woman litigator, working to achieve the recognition her male counterparts got (and gave) much more easily. If you followed Twitter that night, it was blown up by the admiration of many litigators – male and female, young and old. Neesons was indeed a very proud sponsor!
RODA-OBA Diversity Conference – November 2018
Neesons has provided pro bono voice-to-text CART (captioning) services to this important diversity and inclusion event for the last two years. CART allows those with a hearing loss to participate and be fully included in all the presentations.
Lawyers Feed the Hungry – Toronto
For the past two years, Kim Neeson has sat on the Fundraising Committee of LFTH (Toronto). This year, Neeson’s provided the services and funding to create a 20th Anniversary video marking Marty Teplitsky‘s vision to provide a wonderful meal served with dignity to all guests who walk through its doors. LFTH is solely funded through the Law Society of Ontario and generous donations of the legal community, and is staffed 100% by volunteers.
